Annotation

Drawing on a detailed analysis of the sequential organization of a set of discursive practices for obtaining mutually comprehensible initial recognitional reference of a third person or object when the name or a relevant lexical item for the target referent is not available to the speaker, in accidental conversations between L1 and L2 English speakers, this study demonstrates how structural opportunities for second language acquisition are produced in interaction, and how participants orient to similar sequential settings as learning occasions.
