This study explores and exemplifies the interdependence between relevance and repetition in current academic lecturing, analyzing a corpus of English business lectures to discern their ‘Relevant Information Units’ (RIU) and to account for the rhetorical mechanisms used to repeat these units. It argues that classical rhetorical strategies rest up-to-date and essential in efficient lecturing today, and stresses the special role of Grice's maxims and Relevance Theory in this context.
