Applying contrastive ethnopragmatic techniques to communicative style in early British, American and Australian English conversational interactions, this study persents a distinctive suite of cultural scripts for each variety. It is argued that distinct communication styles with respect to initial self-presentation affect mutual misperception, negative assesment and stereotyping.
