This paper examines the enregisterment of dialect cues among the Yopno of Papua New Guinea. Although many works on enregisterment highlight the part played by explicit metapragmatic discourse in this process, this paper foregrounds the important role of tropes in the implicit metapragmatic discourse structuring.
