Annotation

Focusing on their pragmatic functions, this paper argues that English sentence final particles (e.g. then, though, even) constitute hearer prescriptions as to the role of the utterance they companion in terms of participants' shared common ground, and denote subjective and intersubjective meaning components, like certainty level or self- and other-correction.
