The role of swearwords in the ideology of Slovene speakers, considering these words as non-indigenous adoptions from other South Slavic languages, is explored as the product of both Lacanian symbolic fear and particular sociohistorical situations, rather than as an essentializing ‘Balkanist’ conviction.
