Annotation

This conversation analytic study discusses how in family mediation sessions, the emotionality of debating the conditions of visitation for children, hinders the process of reaching an agreement. The similitude of used arguments to those in non-mediation contexts (such as playgrounds), proves especially interesting, as mediation aims, at least in theory, at reducing direct challenges and inconsistencies (cf. Garcia 1991).
