This paper discusses the discursive and ideological struggle over Spanish/English bilingual Latinos' use of the homophobic terms maricón (Spanish)/fag (English) in American public discourse in the two different settings of an informal sports-linked press conference and a political interview in a radio talk show, and related public apologies.
