Annotation

This 2009 survey discusses students' changing language attitudes in the second decade after Hong Kong's political handover to China, an era that witnessed an interaction of localization, mainlandization, and internationalization. ‘Pragmatic trilingualism’-involving English, Cantonese and Putonghua- appears as the future trend for Hong Kong youngsters and significantly more positive attitudes toward Putonghua were reported in the 2009 as compared to the 2001 survey.
