Annotation

Whereas the 1991 Kurdistan Regional Government formation and the 2005 official recognition of Kurdish as one of the two Iraqi state languages have cleared out the external linguicidal (state) threat, anew, the problem of the dialect base of the standard Kurdish language is evoked in the dispute over the confirmation of one or two of the main Kurdish dialects, Sorani and Kurmanji, as official standard language(s) in Iraq.
