Surveying the Kemalist assimilationist policy towards the Kurds and their language in Turkey, this study argues that recent reform of the current government's Kurdish language policy as part of the country's EU candidacy, has been of little influence in reality as Kurdish speakers in Turkey are still systematically deprived of their fundamental human and linguistic rights.
