Annotation

An analysis of language use in shop signs in a suburban town near Dakar, reflects Senegalese language policies, including French dominance, but also the results of a 1990's adult literacy programme, in which Wolof, widespread as lingua franca in multi-ethnic urban communities, alongside other national languages, are employed as the language(s) of instruction.
