Drawing on interviews with Canadian respondents, this study examines whether foreign language acquisition can be considered as important as the acquisition of ‘core’ STEMM subjects in school and university curricula. Inequality systems seem to operate in everyday social discourse on issues like foreign language acquisition and people have an economic investment in maintaining English language dominance.
