Presupposition failure, as defined in P. Harder and C. Kock (1976: 'The theory of presupposition failure'), is shown to be used systematically in literature. K. ventures the following linguistic characterization of literature: utterances which presuppose (interesting) views we do not recognize, speaking as if we did.
