Annotation

Drawing on Trudgill's (1998) model of dialect contact, this article explores the velocity and extent of the Southern Vowel Shift (SVS) reversal in Raleigh, North Carolina, over three generations of white-collar natives. Regional dialect leveling and the foundation of stable linguistic norms appear faster in case of regular child intergroup contact.
