Annotation

This study applies dialectometry to the minute, clan-based society of the indigenous Sui of southwest rural China. A strong correlation is revealed between dialect difference and geographic and “rice paddy distance”. Fundamental dialect variation in space-principles are mainly cross-culturally generalizable and a “lower limit” for dialectology is proposed.
