This paper explores intermediate and advanced English foreign language learner –learner and learner–native speaker (NS) task-based interaction in search of collaborative dialogue. Participants’ collaborative orientation to the activity, defined by their goals and task commitment, more heavily affect the interactional nature than the overall dyad proficiency.
