Annotation

This paper argues that Peruvian Cusqueñans’ nearly exclusive attribution of unstressed vowel devoicing to rural 'provincianos' (following a 1950 earthquake) is related to local ideology, including negative attitudes towards rural (Quechua-accented Spanish) Andean identity.
