Annotation

This paper states that compositionality is compatible with a drastic and strident contextual impact on interpretation. It also argues that an invariant grammar is contingent if grammars can “call in” pragmatic concepts; but this does not mean that grammatical theory needs to account for these concepts or contain a theory of pragmatics.
