This paper examines the Australian settlement experiences of adult immigrant learners of English from Vietnamese, Mandarin and Arabic first language (L1) backgrounds. Immigrants’ perception of their own language proficiency and settlement well-being (employment also plays a role) affect their perception and development of L2 learning.
