Drawing on Cognitive Linguistic and Critical Discourse Analytic methods, this article explores the narrative and argumentative topoi used in the 2009 German official institutional re-orientation of the public memory of the Teutoburg battle (9 CE), with a particular stress on hybrid, post-national identity-construction.
