This paper explores the negotiating strategy of ‘fabricated ignorance’, used in telephone calls by (prospective) clients to a Latin American call centre of a multinational firm specialised in holiday time-shares, as a way of sizing up opportunities and accessing information, services, or benefits one is not, in theory, entitled to.
