Drawing on Garcés-Conejos Blitvich's (2010) genre approach to (im)politeness, this article shows how a Russian-language flamewar as genre adds to sociability on both micro and macro levels, by forming alliances via the face-threatening ‘snub the other’ strategy and reviving participants’ sense of belonging to a loosely defined blogging community.
