Drawing on a series of informal dyadic interactions between native New Zealand English speakers, this paper proposes a quotative content classification system, conceptualising quotative content on six levels, each describing a distinct aspect. This classification system is presented here as principle for the inquiry of other datasets in order to ease inter- and cross-cultural quotative use comparisons.
