This study demonstrates that speakers and hearers are sensitive to both Quantity maxims, i.e. to violations of over- and under-informativeness, and indicates that the insensitivity to over-informativeness as proposed by Engelhardt et al. (2006) needs to be ascribed to pragmatic factors.
