This study demonstrates that substantial L2 pragmatics (in casu Indonesian address terms) can be acquired during even short study abroad periods (by Australian students), but impediments like L1 transfer, a manifest foreigner identity, and lack of access to socializing efforts into L2 norms, also exist.
