This paper discusses the accessibility of the ironic Chinese bei-construction to English speakers. Chinese favor this construction as a pragmatic marker notifying readers about discourse participants' subjectivity and the situational and socio-historical contexts. It also became a recognized model to convey reprobation and comment in Chinese media discourse.
