Annotation

Ordinary Malay discourse participants' ethnopolitical accounts on multiculturalism unveil an enhanced social distance between Malays and non-Malays, but diverging evaluations and comments for such group boundaries. Religion, in particular Islam, was employed as ethnopolitical discourse and articulated in various ways. Despite their differences, discussants appeared prepared to debate these “sensitive issues” via criticism and defensive accounts.
