Annotation

This paper argues that whilst the shortage of facilitating and motivating factors in south-north migrations, mixed with utility-maximization and colingualism speeds up language shift rather than maintenance in transnational migrations, facilitating factors, in particular manifold contacts with rural communities, combined with lower educational degrees, lessen language shift chance in rural-urban migrations. Examples involve data from African immigrant communities in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.
