Annotation

“Revitalized” Breton as a disputed variety displays some features of a language that underwent “bottom-up” revitalization, such as failing admission of certain neologisms, especially those devised (it is claimed) from a “purist” or “nationalist” origin. This paper examines how these neologisms are challenged via the lens of language ideology and how rivalling claims to Breton ‘authenticity’ are being lead in a variety of domains, internet fora inclusive.
