This paper compares the uses of formulations in cognitive psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. Two formulation types are common in both approaches: highlighting and rephrasing formulations. Relocating and exaggerating formulations on the other hand are only found in respectively psychoanalysis and cognitive psychotherapy, which suggests that interactional differences between the two still exist.
