Annotation

This paper investigates the interaction of discourse, religion and politics in the Iranian government-controlled news websites' representation of Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader. As he is discursively portayed by features linked to the Prophet Muhammad and the 12 indefectible Imams of the Shia tradition, the texts appear to be employed to uphold and amplify the dominance of people in power positions.
