This paper explores selected summaries from female foreign domestic helpers' traumatic narratives, as told in a Hong Kong church shelter, concentrating on the functions of laughter (in distress). It presents a model conveying the tragi-comic life experience span, as a means for further in-depth research on laughter in discourse.
