This paper discusses the language-ideological anchorage of Belgian legal-administrative procedures in translocal institutional settings. This is exemplified by the case of an asylum seeker who turned into a murder victim and whose asylum file was emloyed in the ensuing assize trial as a resource to design his social identity.
