Annotation

This paper explores the role of indigenous languages in the construction of possession relations with regard to three case studies: land ownership by Kaiadilt people of Bentinck Island in the Carpentaria Gulf, possession more commonly among southwest American Navajo, and family/household “property” of the Chinese Southern Song dynasty.
