Annotation

In spite of a firm belief in the usefulness of English widely held in Sweden, both Swedes and immigrants prefer to use Swedish in most fields. This contrasts the arguments advanced by some academics, educators and journalists on the ‘menace’ of English, and the everyday language practices of ordinary people.
