Annotation

Public American enslavement and its ensuing effects are argued to provide a case study for an existentialist inquiry of freedom, repression and humor. Subversive humor is an effective way to denounce the contradictions and absurdities of the enslavers. It can also act as a bastion against oppression by (non-violently) charging the absolutist stance on human nature upheld via the use of “authoritative” language and action.
