This paper discusses the reserve to verbally express love (also towards parents) in Chinese university students, as compared to American students' uses of I love you in the US. Chinese survey respondents systematically minimized both verbal and nonverbal love expressions, which complies with theoretical suggestions on high vs. Low context cultures.
