This article examines context, methods and results of English as a medium of instruction (MOI) policies and practices in 10 Asian polities covering the Maldives, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Japan. A naive macro-level comprehension of MOI as a facile solution to intricate language problems for attaining exorbitantly ambitious politico-economic targets appears to induce less than exemplary MOI realization at the micro level.
