Annotation

This paper introduces the (post-)colonial linguistic ideologies that modelled Solomon Islands' sociolinguistic relationships, examines the dynamics between Pijin and English as conveyed by several stakeholders, and sketches the evolution of nationalist ideologies that regard Pijin in a different perspective. It also reviews the influence of PRIDE (Pacific regional initiatives for the delivery of basic education) on the potential use of Pijin as language of instruction, especially in primary schools.
