Different factors seem to confuse learners’ bents as to the use of ‘native’ speaker (NS) norms in English language education: (1) the impact of (duration of) exposure to settings of English usage, (2) learners' perceptions of NS norms as rendering theoretical ambitions or actual goals, (3) the degree to which learners wish to pursue NS norms (entirely or partially), and (4) the impact of others’ conjectures.
