Drawing on sociocultural and contextual viewpoints, this article explores how Japanese as a L2 learners notice a discord between their convictions and actions when using the target language in an Australian university classroom setting, and how these learners alter their convictions or actions to surmount the obstacle to speak Japanese more often in class.
