This article investigates the use of the terms Hispanic and Latino (and to a lesser degree Latin American) in US official (Census Office) documents and quality national newspapers within a narrative theory framework. Whereas official use appears rather steady, quality media use seems mainly unforeseeable, albeit they do not draft a negative image of the Spanish language minority.
