Annotation

This paper discusses how both autochthonous Catalan native speakers and individuals of differing social, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds now systematically use several forms of Catalan in various combinations and for differing goals in everyday life. New sociolinguistic troubles, solutions and opportunities have appeared, especially around new immigration and polylingualism engendered by globalization from above and below since the new millennium. Besides the essential interest of the manifest success of Catalan language policy, the historical metamorphoses in Catalonian language practices and ideologies allow to examine core phenomena in contemporary theoretical debates.
