Annotation

This paper deals with potential (kinds of) problems regarding Dutch language competence in higher education. How they may be solved is illustrated by the development of the language policy of the Amsterdam university, originating in the Humanities. The paper focuses on the so-called Diversity Project performed in 2011–2012 at this faculty. The findings provide some prerequisites for an efficient language policy and some suggestions for further inquiry are discussed.
