Drawing on New Zealand data from eldercare facilities, this study reconsiders caregiver-elderly resident interactions, in previous studies in general massively depicted as desolate and negative, and reveals that they are rich and intricate, often mooting matters of face threat for both participants. This inquiry of these interactions thus offers an alternative, more positive viewpoint than that which ruled a great part of earlier research.
