This study examines how co-participants employ mixtures of interactional components to build sequentially apposite actions. It especially focuses on how physical objects are used in combination with talk, gaze and bodily posture to construct local social order in study guidance counselling meetings at a university. Following Streeck (1996), it is the organizing of the body and objects into identifiable configurations for handling specific types of task that is employed as a gestural expositon of institutional orientation.
