Annotation

This study presents the notion of listening genres and explores the constitution of a specific case, “psychoanalytic listening.” Listening practices engender contextual frameworks of interaction, which have the ability to guide behavior. Social actors listen both pragmatically and intentionally. Hearers listen with a goal, they search (directed) meanings, and the result of their interpretation remodels several social dimensions. In order to illustrate how listening genres are created and recreated, this study examines psychoanalytic listening as a genre in a multi-family psychoanalytic milieu in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
