Annotation

This study considers two issues linked to the question of how to merge Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) with a broader verbal interaction theory (Hengeveld and Mackenzie, 2008). First, it presents an addressee-oriented variant of the Grammatical Component, introducing a first effort to generate an FDG explanation of language comprehension; second, it tries to elucidate the interplay between FDG's Grammatical and Contextual Components by examining this vital element of verbal communication from the addressee's viewpoint.
