This study suggests that merging Conversation Analysis (CA) with Cognitive Grammar (CG) offers a productive framework for research on language as socio-cognitive event. Whereas the construal of the ground depends upon CG terminology, the ways in which the ground is construed can only be discovered employing CA methods. The two analysed indexical phenomena are Finnish demonstratives and Finnish free-standing infinitives.
